Under The Full Moon: A SoMa Fanfiction chapter 2

                                                   The First Kiss

~Time Skip~ Next full moon

Before going to bed Marie, Stein, and Maka locked every window and door. Dr. Stein also made sure he had a gun in a reachable place just in case. 

~The next morning~

Maka woke up to an empty house. She figured Marie and Stein had already left to go to the town meeting. Curiosity got the best of her and she decided to sneak to the meeting just to see what was going on. Maka slipped her cloak tying the string around her neck and walked out the door. 

The village was empty for the most part. Most children were still in their beds sleeping and most adults were at the meeting discussing who's lives were lost, what animals were killed, and what they could do do stop this thing. Snow lightly fell from the sky adding to the decent amount of snow that was already on the ground. Maka walked up quietly to the building and peaked in through a small hole. The leaders son Kid was standing atop a table surrounded by men while the women stood to the sides. Maka realized she had missed most of the meeting but she would get to hear them discuss some things.

"We must find a way to kill this thing" a villager shouted out. Maka was sure that was obvious to everyone. Despite the obviousness men still shouted out in agreement. Maka didn't see why they yelled because it solved nothing though she wasn't surprised to see Black*Star yelling out the loudest. 

"Yes and I understand this but we must find a rational way to do so. We need a better way. Sacrificing our men in vain will need help anything" Kid said calmly but his voice held dominance. 

"We haven't gotten anywhere just sitting around either" Another man shouted.

"Well at least wives have their husbands and children have their fathers" Kid stated.

"Then what if those wives and children are killed because we have yet to kill this" a man pointed out.

"I say we hunt this thing down again I'm positive we can kill it we just need to find a weakness" a man who seemed to think he was the leader proposed.

"If you do that you'll end up with many more dead men" Kid said anger flashed in his eyes. The men were being stubborn and that is going to be their demise even Maka could see that and they all call her a child. Men began arguing about different 'better' ways to the wolf.

"I can lead a group" a man offered.

"I'll lead another" another man called out.

"If you would wait a few days my father and I have a solution one that is bound to solve our issue" Kid explained. Despite his words men continued talking about who would lead what groups.

"Enough!" Marie screamed out silencing everyone. "I am so sick of seeing men dying each night that they think they can kill a wolf. I'm sick of seeing children grow up fatherless and wives being widowed! Can you not just trust the leader to solve the issue without killing anyone else" Marie shouted. The room burst out in small conversations. Everyone seemed to agree or they were probably scared because Marie has never screamed ever.

"Thank you Marie" Kid said nodding towards Marie. Suddenly Kid looked right where Maka was. Maka feared he knew she was there but he then looked away.

A sound of disgust came from Spirit. "She's only a woman. You don't need to listen to her" he explained his voice slurred showing how drunk he was. Stein looked furious and Marie just looked a bit upset. Some agreed with Spirit others looked mad at him. 

"Spirit!" Stein shouted out followed by many arguments.

"Alright everyone. Enough! The meeting is over" Kid called over all the screaming quieting the fights at once and the meeting room began to empty out. Some people were glaring at each other.  Maka began to walk away from where she was peaking into the meeting building to make it look as if she had just walked past the  building. Maka spotted Soul walking from the building with Black*Star. Before she could walk over to her friends someone hugged her from behind. The smell of alcohol surrounded her and she knew it was her father.

"Maka! I'm so glad you alright! Your papa misses you" he shouted.

"Let go of me" Maka muttered. Maka felt Spirit being roughly pulled away from her. She looked over to see Stein pushing Spirit away. Maka gave Stein a grateful look.

"Thank you Dr.Stein" she said.

"You're welcome" Stein said. It was obvious he was furious with Sprirt. Soul made his way over to Maka.

"What happened Maka" Soul asked glancing over at the angry Stein and Spirit who looked beyond scared.

"My father was being his usual self and tried to hug me and Dr.Stein pulled him off me" Maka explained. Soul nodded.

"Your father is really uncool" Soul stated. Maka agreed.

"Want to check out our trap with me" Soul asked.

"Yeah" Maka answered smiling at Soul. The two headed for the woods together.

"You know the cloak looks really nice on you. Red suits you" Soul said after a moment of silence.

"Thank you" Maka did her best to hide the blush on her face.

"I'm going to start calling you red" Soul joked a grin on his face. Maka laughed and lightly elbowed him. She felt normalcy from this. Being with Soul joking with him. For  a moment she could actually forget the troubles of the world and escape into peace even if it is only for a few minutes.

"Look we've caught something" Soul pointed to their trap and sure enough there was a rabbit with fur the color of the snow struggling to escape. Maka and Soul walked quickly to the trap excitement showed on both their faces. Maka pulled the rabbit from the trap and Soul pulled a small knife from his belt strap. This moment reminded Maka of her first time killing an animal.

~Flashback~

Maka and Soul were young. Soul had just taught Maka how to make an animal trap and the trap had just caught its first victim. A small white rabbit. Maka pulled it out of the trap and began to pet it.

"You know you have to kill it"  Soul explained.

"Why" Maka asked holding the rabbit closer.

"Because we need food to survive and that rabbit is not a pet it is food" Soul answered. He had his usual look of mischief but there was also seriousness in his young features. Maka nodded and took a knife from Soul and for the first time she killed an animal.

~Flashback End~

"It's your turn to skin it" Maka explained. Last time they caught something Maka had to skin it.

"Yeah I know" Soul had a grin on his face. After the job was done and the trap was reset Soul and Maka walked back to Makas house and gave the rabbit to Marie to cook.

"You should join us for supper" Marie offered.

"If it's not a bother to you" Soul stated. 'Suck up' Maka thought.

"Not at all" Marie insisted.

"Then I'll see you tonight I need to take care of some things" Soul explained.

"Okay see you at supper" Maka said and smiled watching Soul leave.

"Maka I have to take care of supper so could you go see if Stein is okay" Marie asked. "I swear he is going to work himself to death" she muttered.

"Yes. Is he in the medical shed" Maka answered. 

"He should be" Marie answered going back to making supper. Maka nodded and left. Outside her house was cold so she pulled her hood over her head. Maka was walking to the medical shed when she heard Kid and his father speaking in the meeting building. Maka looked through the hole at the two. Their voices were hushed and urgent. What were they talking about? Kid hurried from the building and Maka turned away from the building quickly. She began to walk away hoping she wouldn't be caught.

"Yellow Maka" Kid greeted before she could get any further. Maka stopped walking and turned towards Kid.

"Hello Kid. How are you doing" Maka said. Kid had been a friend of hers when they were younger but as they got older Kid got distant. He only really spoke with Liz and Patty. The two girls were adopted by Kids father.

"Soul...I think Kid...is the wolf" Man explained her voice muffled. Soul hugged her back comforting her. "He threatened me...kind of" she added.

"What do you mean kind of" Soul asked.

"He said mosey girls would end up like Kim and Jackie and that I shouldn't be nosey" Maka explained. Soul went quiet for a moment.

"Maybe he is but we can't be sure. If he lays a hand on you though  Will kill him wolf or not" Soul said in a threatening way.

"What if he is though" Maka asked.

"We need proof or someone other then us to this but on the other hand he may just be a spoiled brat" Soul stated. Maka nodded. "We should go to your house now before Mrs.Marie begins to worry" he added. Maka only nodded and let go of Soul. He wrapped his arm around Makas shoulder as they walked to Makas home.

"I promise I won't let anyone hurt you" Soul whispered to Maka and kissed her temple. This caused Maka to blush. When they arrived at Makas house Soul unwrapped his arm from her shoulder and opened the door for her.

"Thank you" Maka told him quietly.

"Did you speak with Stein" Marie asked.

"Yeah he said he would be back soon" Maka answered.

"Hopefully he'll make it back for supper" Marie muttered.

Thankfully Stein did make it back in time for supper. When they all finished cleaning Maka walked Soul to the door.

"Goodnight see you tomorrow" Soul said. He kissed her but it was only a small peck. "I lobe you" he whispered before Maka could say or do anything Soul walked away. Maka closed the door both shocked and happy. Though she had not told anyone or thought about it a lot she did like Soul a lot. She decided to ask Soul about it tomorrow. 

Despite the happy moment earlier and Souls promises of protection Makas dreams were filled with nightmares where Kid would turn into a hideous beast and hurt her friends and family.
